Your morning tour starts with guided sightseeing of Berlin, traveling on Boulevard Unter den Linden and soon arrive at Brandenburger Gate, the city’s symbol and site of the reunification of Germany. Close by admiring the Holocaust Memorial to the murdered Jews of Europe, made up of more than 2.700 giant blocks of concrete. - You will be visiting the former Reichstag building, now houses Germany’s Federal Parliament. See its East Side Gallery with almost a mile-long section of inner wall running along the banks of Spree river and some later will stop at Checkpoint Charlie, once the only border and crossing point between East and West for the Allies. - From here passing Potsdamer Platz, that became the futuristic heart of Berlin, by way of the memorial church Gedächtniskirche and arriving famous Boulevard Kurfuerstendamm. Time to browse around perhaps for a visit at KaDeWe, the largest and most magnificent department store of continental Europe. - Following this lunch break, we continue with our sightseeing tour and visit Castle Charlottenburg, largest existing palace in Berlin, a shining example of Baroque architecture and built during the 11th C. Enjoy here a huge number of impressive collections created over hundreds of years, arts prevailing in Brandenburg-Prussia at the time of Great Elector. - Spend the rest of this afternoon at leisure to do as you please. You start this day with an bus excursion to historic Potsdam to enjoy its cultural landscape and parks, designed under Prussia’s Electors, Kings and Emperors with an outstanding architecture form an ensemble which is unique. So is Babelsberg Palace and nearby its film studios, the Havel lakes and its Saviour’s Church, for example, all declared sites of World Cultural Heritage by UNESCO. You will be visiting its great Sanssouci Park and Palace with a majestic facade and interior demonstrates the virtuosity of the artists who have created a sumptuous decor of rich Rococo with grey and golden tints and extravagant ornamentations. - Time will be left for a leisurely walk through this lovely park before your tour continues to see Castle Cecilienhof, built as a residence of the last German Crown Prince Wilhelm of Prussia and for his wife and historic site in 1945 when the longest summit meeting took place of the victorious allied powers, The USA, Great Britain and the Soviet Union. - Later, dinner tonight will be served at the historic Citadelle and Fortress-Restaurant. Another highlight of your tour takes you today out of Berlin north, passing Oranienburg and some of Prussia’s former battlefields and arrive with your chartered bus at Schwerin, a city of amazing architecture and fascinating history. You are scheduled to visit its landmark Castle Schwerin, the former seat of counts and grand-dukes of its Mecklenburg district. With its beginnings of the 16th C. followed by alterations and extensions the castle finally became an imitation of the French Chambord Palace on the Loire. The impressive inside will show you a vast collection of antique furniture and classic paintings. - Following this break, the route takes you further east to the smaller town of Guestrow to see first its enormous Cathedral of the 13th C. Then it's on to its Castle, one of the most remarkable 16th C. Renaissance palaces in northern Germany which some later became Wallenstein’s headquarter between 1626 and 1628. The elegant apartment house displays of antique, medieval and of Renaissance art. The surroundings will invite you for a walk before your way back will lead through its quaint lake and National Park district. - Arriving Berlin in time for freshening up and for dinner at your hotel. This evening will be a special occasion with entertainment and a surprise-drawing with everyone winning & valuable gift. (B & D/ OV)
