A warm welcome awaits you upon arrival Berlin by your Tour Director followed by a transfer to Castle Cecilienhof in Potsdam, a very historic site where Truman, Churchill and Stalin have signed the Potsdam Agreement in August 1945. - Enjoy a welcome reception and a recital about the history of this castle before your dinner will be served this evening at the Castle Restaurant. After a tasty breakfast buffet your morning starts with a sightseeing of the “Garden City Potsdam”, over centuries the dynasty of Hohenzollern created a landscape of parks and gardens. You will be visiting Sanssouci Palace to see its interior representing a virtuosity of artists who created a sumptuously rich Rokoko decor. Later, enjoy its splendid park and Tea House with a group of gilded life-size Chinese statues. - A short drive takes you now to Berlin and on sweeping avenue Unter den Linden, stop at Friedrichsstrasse to view Checkpoint Charly, former crossing point up to 1989 between the city’s East and West. - You will see Brandenburg Gate and its Reichstag building which now houses the German Parliament. The further route leads along Berlin’s Zoological Garden to prestigious boulevard Kurfuerstendamm to see its ruined Emperor Wilhelm Church, kept as a reminder of World War II destruction. - Time is yours to shop or browse around before your private bus takes you back to Potsdam and Castle Cecilienhof in time for dinner. Following breakfast on historic ground Cecilienhof your journey continues further north along Mecklenburg’s fertile lake district by way of Schwerin with a stop to visit its outstanding castle with a vast collection of antique furniture and paintings. - Soon after arriving at the “Wedding Castle” Tremsbuettel near Hamburg, beautifully located and with luxurious comfort. Before dinner and during a welcome reception the Castle Lord is going to explain all further details about this venerable castle. (B & D/OV)
After a hearty castle breakfast a short drive with your chartered bus takes you to Hamburg and to one of Europe’s largest ports. A drive around the Inner Alster river will provide you with a great view of its skyline and spires of historic churches. We will see its Baroque landmark St. Michaelis, a church of the 18th C and its old town quarter dominated by a magnificent Town Hall. Close by and at Jungfernstieg enjoy some time at leisure surrounded by elegant shops and outside walk cafes. - Around noon you are booked on an exciting harbor cruise watching boats of all sizes, ferries and cruise ships passing by. - During the later afternoon return to your castle home and be invited to participate in a lovely horse-carriage ride traveling the romantic and wooded surroundings of its castle estate. - Later, join for dinner at the castle. Enjoy another delicious breakfast this morning and leave the area of Hamburg further south with a stop at the Hanseatic City of Bremen. An orientation drive will show the Statue of Roland, a medieval knight and the landmark of this town. Of much interest homes and buildings which bear witness of old German folk tales, like “The Bremen Town Musicians” of a donkey, dog, cat and cock. We then follow our route to Muenster and to our next overnight stop Castle Wilkinghege, a moated castle idyllic situated amid a picturesque countryside. - While having later a welcome reception listen to its turbulent history of this 15th C castle. Your morning starts again with a good breakfast, with a visit at the Castle Chapel followed by a sightseeing of Westphalia’s capital Muenster. You will visit the city’s old university, the market square and Dome that bears an altarpiece of St. John and the silver tabernacle of the 13th C. Worth-seeing also its unique Astronomic Clock of the 16th C shows mechanical figures rotating daily at noon. - Time is at your own, perhaps at its picturesque city lake before we return in your chartered bus to our beautiful castle. - A private horse-carriage drive is waiting again to take us along the moat and old manor houses dotting the countryside. - Later, dinner will be served at the Castle Restaurant. After breakfast we leave this park-like landscape of Muenster country passing lovely villages, charming health resorts, wooded hills and National Parks with stops en route and arrive at Sababurg, near Kassel, also called the “Castle of the Sleeping Beauty”, situated right amid the health resort and fairy-tale world of the forest Reinhardswald. - A personal welcome of the Castle Lord is followed by a reception and performance to become some more acquainted with this impressive stronghold before we join again for dinner. Following another tasty breakfast this morning our chartered bus tour leads south to Wuerzburg, the former seat of the Prince-Bishops. On an orientation drive, we cross the Old Main River Bridge adorned with Baroque statues of saints and arrive at Fortress Marienberg, during the 13th C Bishop residence. Enjoy from here now a magnificent view down to the roofs of this city and its river. - Upon this leisurely break, we continue with our drive to Zweiflingen in the district of Swabia and not far from Heilbronn and Romantic Road. - Here at Castle Friedrichsruhe join for a welcome cocktail and learn some more about this old castle surrounded by a splendid park before we take our dinner at the Castle Restaurant. Enjoy your breakfast and leave today on an unforgettable excursion to Germany’s Romantic Road with our first stop at the medieval town of Dinkelsbuehl. Admire old burgher houses adorned with colorful signs, ramparts and watchtowers, still surrounding this old place. - Time is on your own before we travel to Rothenburg, truly Germany’s most romantic town. Preserved old houses in original architecture of the Middle Ages and beautiful fountains will put you into the atmosphere of the 15th and 16th C. At St. James Church see T. Riemenschneider’s famous altarpiece “Last Supper”, the Town Hall and Baumeisterhaus, a restaurant of the early 16th C. - Ample time to shop or browse around. - Later this afternoon return to Castle Friedrichsruhe for another and enjoyable horse-carriage ride leading through the castle park and its surroundings. - Dinner will be served at the castle. Start your day again with a full breakfast and drive with your hired coach this morning through the picturesque Neckar River Valley, famous for its wine-growing and arrive at the beautiful city of Heidelberg. The tour will show one of Germany’s oldest universities, the lively market place and a Knight Mansion even of the late 16th C. Driving up the castle hill and from its terrace, you will enjoy a magnificent view of the town and its river Neckar. - Then our today’s journey takes us to most charming Castle Kronberg, built during the late 19th C by Queen Victoria. Before dinner tonight enjoy a special welcome reception, some useful information about this castle and its history. (B & D/OV)
After a royal breakfast today’s excursion takes you to Ruedesheim of the Rhine Gorge to visit first the Drosselgasse, a picturesque alley lined with a number of inviting wine houses. - Some later, you are scheduled for a Rhine River Cruise passing castles and remains of former fortresses crowning hills, famous wine growing regions, quaint little towns on both sides and the legendary Loreley Rock where mermaids are said to have lured sailors to their death... You disembark at St. Goarshausen for some free time to do as you please. - Then visiting ruined Castle Rheinfels, once strongest fortress on the Rhine river and built during the 13th C. Enjoy here a beautiful view of the Rhine valley and some other castles around before we return to Castle Kronberg in time for freshening up. - Dinner is a festive occasion tonight as you enjoy a Knight Banquet with candle lights and wine at the castle’s Stately Saloon. As a surprise, there will be a drawing of valuable gifts with everyone winning. We wish this last day to be the most enjoyable one of your ROYAL CASTLE TOUR. (B & D/OV)
